With the details still to be announced, it has been made known today that the Scottish Government is investing in the future of Ferguson’s shipyard at Port Glasgow.
The yard, recently bought out of administration by Jim McColl of Clyde Blowers, now resident in Monaco, has been commissioned by the Scottish Government to build a third hybrid ferry for the state owned maritime asset holder, CMAL, which will then lease it for service with west coast ferry operator, CalMac.The first of the diesel electric Hybrids, MV Hallaig, went to the inter-island Skye-Raasay route; and the second, MV Lochinvar, to the Tarbert-Portavadie route, linking Cowal and Kintyre in Argyll.
